Percussion instruments are set on MIDI Channel 10 (when zero-based indexing is used, that corresponds to number 9).

General Midi Level 1 specs define percussion instruments in note range 35-81. Sounds for ranges 27-34 and 82-87 are defined in General Midi Level 2 specs.
